WORKS > Protestors

This is a series of portraits of women modeled from protestors that I found online - the city and year of their activity are the titles of the works. They were protesting for social justice, gun control, abortion rights and the ERA. I was inspired by the fierceness of their expressions and thrilled by the potential of the female voice. Each head is 18 inches high and modeled in air-dry clay on a pipe, wire and foil armature with an intervening layer of newspaper to absorb the shrinkage of the clay. After they dried they were sanded, sealed and a layer of composition gold leaf was applied to the surface
